Through Flora Routes:
Simple Rules to Intricate Forms
Simple mathematical rules can generate incredibly complex structures. These intricate forms can be found in nature and it’s flora, and can be precisely recreated using computer programming software. By generating graphic paths extracted from the phyllotaxis patterns, abstract geometric representations of these structures emerge. This project uses the CNC as an iterative procedural tool. This approach juxtaposes the complex mathematics of nature with man-made tools for making. It creates a tension between the precision of the rules and the organic quality of the medium. It explores what happens when you force the unpredictable materials into very procedural processes. This thesis celebrates the forms that emerge from this process.
